HI Folks, I have a customer who wants his output jack from his pickup to be on the lower bout of the guitar, (Similar to where it's located on a Les Paul.) Not in the typical location of the end block. I had thought of doubling up the side just around the jack area, or put a mahogany block there. Or should I convience him to not do that and keep it in the treditonal location?

I should mention, this is a small jumbo acoustic.

I would put a mahogany block there.

definitely put a block there or it will split the side or worse break out.

i would strongly try to convince him to use the endpin location.

failing that the suggestion above to put in a block is very good. anything less and you run a very great risk of spliting the side somewhere along the line.

better yet (over mahogany), a 1/2 inch thick piece of baltic birch ply, contoured to fit - I now use nothing else for end blocks.
